For Kenzo fall/winter 2013 collection, we examined ancient asian temples around india, nepal and china. We took a mythological pilgrimage to the soaring heights of the temple’
s pinnacles where the symbol of the eye beams as a protector in all directions of north, south, east and west.
When commissioning fabrics from Kenzo takada’s former haberdashery, we came across reams of multicolored, grosgrain ribbons and imagined the reconstruction of these marvelous temples using rich, multicolored and opulent fabrics of gold jacquard and printed lamé.
Sequences of fabrics meld together to create dresses in cross draped motifs and graphic wrap skirts. Raglan sleeved moon-bombers and coats with wide temple guard sleeves and wrap fastenings propose a silhouette that brings to mind ancient asian warriors. Serpent, brick-textured, lurex jackets and coats, and slim foiled printed denim trousers exude an empowered femininity while eel lines on jackets offer a pronounced shoulder. Boxy tee-shirt tops in gold jacquard flash notes of delicate armor. Printed and embroidered sweaters and knits continue the eye motif and propose a salient juxtaposition of luxurious meeting casual.
Shoes featuring details of jacquard ribbon bands and gold leather are presented in chunky heeled variations of peep toes and thigh high sock boots. Kenzo continues its collaboration with delfina delettrez for fall/winter 2013 on a collection of gold ribbon necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings embracing the eye motif throughout.
