Mash-up. Peter Som Fall 2013 is all about the crazy-quilt eclectic mash-up of early eighties NYC downtowners photographed by Amy Arbus, mixed with the romance of Paris. Taking inspiration from his two favorite cities, Peter weaves a patchwork of patterns, textures and colors in each piece of clothing. Signature prints come in bold collaged striped florals, acid-edged graffiti florals, and paint-stroke polka dots. Classic sportswear fabrics-wool twill, wool hopsack suiting, leopard and wool cashmere coatings are mixed in with sequins, silk cady and crepe de chine. Embroideries mix Avenue A cool with Left Bank chic-sequins, bugle beads and jet beads are used to render classic florals— all in NYC black. Furs include candy colored alpaca, golden fox and Persian lamb. Colors come in bold strokes of bright blue, aqua, rosedust pink, lipstick red and as always the graphic appeal of black and white feature prominently. The silhouette is long and lean, with a sense of ease as seen in slouchy jodhpurs and oversized wrap coats inspired by vintage army coat linings. The hard-edged vintage boldness of NYC downtown NYC with the love affair that is Paris. Peter Som Fall 2013.
